Teachers, guidance counselors, school administrators, and participating organizations may recommend high school students for consideration. Referrals should describe the student's interests, initiative, and creative work, along with the referrer's relationship to the student.
Positive Space Media also identifies prospective participants through independent projects and original work, including films, photography, writing, and work shared online.
The program team reviews referrals and prospective candidates before issuing invitations to apply.
Accessing the Application
Invited candidates receive a personal application code. Select Apply to the Cohort and enter your code to access the online application.
The application remains private until a valid invitation code is entered. Students without a code may ask a teacher, guidance counselor, or school administrator to submit a referral for consideration.
Application Materials
Complete the school and contact information requested in the application and prepare the following materials.
Personal Statement
Explain your interest in the cohort, the subjects or creative disciplines you have been exploring, and the work you want to develop through the program.
Introductory Video
Introduce yourself and discuss a project, subject, or creative interest you would like the program team to understand. The video is an opportunity to hear directly from you about your work and interests.
Creative Work
Share examples of your original work where available. These may include films, photographs, writing, or other creative projects. For collaborative work, describe your contribution.
Review and Interviews
The program team reviews applications with attention to each candidate's interests, initiative, and commitment to developing their work. Consideration also includes readiness to collaborate, respond to feedback, and participate throughout the program.
Candidates advancing through review are invited to an interview. The discussion covers their interests, submitted materials, and the responsibilities of participating in the cohort.
Admission to the Cohort
Ten students are admitted to each cohort following application review and interviews. Selected students receive their admission decision and the information needed to prepare for the program.
